Love is in the air

Fri Jul 10, 2009, 5:40 PM
The convict cichlids emerged from the driftwood caverns yesterday with a new brood of babies following close behind. Bold little suckers, the tinfoil barbs float just a foot above the main nest without snagging a meal.

The guppies seem energetic today as well, there are congo lines in that tank with the few females I have left in the lead. I need to raise a spawn or two more of those guys as the tank is emptying out..

Also the bettas in the ten are spawning as I type. The orange male seems to be having a difficult time flipping the female over but they are getting in a groove now with more successful wraps then not. The peacock cichlid and red tailed hap fry are all hiding out in the apogneton forest the fills 90% of the tank.

The molly babies are getting big now, I'm not yet sure how many I'll keep. I have black and dalmation mollies if anyone happens to live near Rockford, Illinois and wants a couple. :P

hi there! since you're an experienced keeper, can you identify my fish's disease?

she's a platy, and unlike her other brothers and sisters in the tank, she separates herself alone, kept hiding at woods or plants. she's not pregnant, her colors are a lil bit paler, and swims a lil bit sluggishly (but she still eats.. altho comes late to the food....

i just don't know what's wrong and what to do... pleae help me! thanks! :D

this world... wouldn't it be boring if there wasn't any evilness in it? evil is what keeps this world balanced and going... so, cheers for the evil ones! :XD:

How old are the platies, what size tank are they kept in, and how many are there(males/females). Do you ever notice any interactions between her and the other fish in the tank? Any other odd behaviors besides the loner behavior? :)
well there's not much interaction, she's quite old (adult sized) while the others are younger...
none of the males mated with her, not even the adult males...

they did'nt pick on her or harm her or anything, she just... moves away and prefers to hide...

i thought of using salt to treat her in isolated tank...

Some fish just prefer to be alone, There may not be any individuals in the group she prefers to socialize with. Also livebearers do no have the longest lifespan so if she is a year or more old she may just be showing signs of age. Unless you see other signs of disease or illness moving her to a whole new tank and administering treatments would just add stress to the situation.
thanks for the fav!

Since I am kind of a newb with goldfish, I wanted to ask what other fish do you keep in the same fishtank as them?
